Viper Challenge 2013

Alrighty, I know it has been a while since I update my blog - again. So what I am up to?

I just finished the Viper challenge yesterday so I guess I shall blog about it. On the note, I am suffering from whole body muscle pain and sun burnt. The muscle pain seems like worse than the one I got from Mt. KK, considering that's only lower body and this is full body. Pain intensity - should be same level though...and my last sun burnt was 2010 in Germany! hmm

I joined the event when Wei wei and Lulu called me if I wanna join them as a team. It's a 20km run with obstacle and 4 in a team. So I thought, oh well 4 in a team so it's not exactly 20km then. I quickly check online on the info and I saw some obstacle that daunts me - monkey bar... I have never did that before and I don't know how to play with that. Nevertheless, thinking that I should challenge and push both my fitness and determination I give it a go. The event was just 2 weeks away.

So yesterday I woke up at 4, actually I can't wake up, Lulu was here to fetch me and she called, luckily I have already packed up. So after fetch me and wei wei, we headed to Sepang International Circuit. Then only I realized that, it was a 20km run, each person has to do the 20km, and with obstacle. Okay, okay, since I am already there, I can only succumb to the fate. I thought it was a relay... Nevertheless, we were registered for the 720am batch since the registration wasn't done completely. Luckily Suanie was there to help out on the registration and she settle it for us. It started to rain when we reach there at 530+, heavier and heavier.

So, we rested around the registration area waiting for our time to start off, and I literally just lay on the floor to get some sleep. Fast forward to 720am. We walked to the starting point, where the F1 cars will start their race, and voila, run. The first obstacle was on the grass, with mud, where there's net, and we have to crawl underneath the net. But it was ok, not really crawling as the net is quite loose and we just bend our body to go through. Then continue to run again.. what was the second obstacle huh.. climb over the wall made by planks? Can't remember clearly already, because there were a few wooden walls to get over with. That was where team work supposed to happen. I stepped on Lulu's thigh and climb over. I realized my landing wasn't good because I felt the impact on my foot. That actually happened a few times when I did my landing, thus I was afraid of doing that. There's another obstacle where by we need to jump in a icy cold box of water and get through, go down to the muddy tunnel, balancing bar which if you fall you will fall into water, uphill, downhill, climb the hills with grabbing the rope (luckily I have this experience when I went to Mt KK), slide from a big natural slide by terrain (and got injured on both my elbows), run on tyres, crawl underneath barb wires, climb over a hill of tyres, climb over a pile of dry grass, and a number of wooden walls. Oh yes, the monkey bars too. I tried to grab the second bar and I don't know how to continue, thus, I skipped it.

There were many times that I tried to resume running and after 20 secs or so, my calf started to cramp slightly. And I know I need to slow down and walk. Both calves. It has been a long time since I work out until the cramp feeling comes. Not even Mt KK. So I guess since I was in the university for swimming huh..
Finally, when I reach the last 2 obstacle, my teammates were already sitting on the top of the pile of dried grass and waiting for me. However, my legs cannot run anymore. So I walked towards them and started to climb up and down, and the last obstacle was wooden wall again, stepped on one of my teammate's thigh (which I forgot who) and climb over. Lastly, four of us hold our hands to run towards the finishing line. There were fireman with water pipes to splash water at us - which I think it's actually a good move as it cleaned us up thoroughly from the mud. With the medal, t shirt, cert, free milo and ice creams.

That is all from my 20km with obstacle. Not as gruesome when I think back now. I am stronger me :)
I want to thank my teammates, Lulu, Keen Mun and Wei Wei, for waiting for me (as I am the weakest link) and motivate me!

On the other note, I was out with Chee Ho and Mee Teng on Saturday night, I told them I am going to this viper challenge, and Chee Ho asked me, what kind of people you actually mix with? And I told them, athletes :D I'm going to be one also!
